Dear Friends: As a Canadian I get used to the benign neglect the U.S. media affords us because our anonymity is sort of a safety net protecting us from the worst of American excess....., but the news from down south hit a new low today when a U.S. political publication commented on the terrorist attack on a bunch of people in Toronto this afternoon.
The guy in question is either a terrorist.........., or nuts, (we don't know which yet) because he drove down the sidewalk of Toronto's main st. (Yonge St,) and killed about 10 people and severely injured about 20 more and then tried to get the cops to shoot him. (They didn't because they knew he was holding a cell phone, not a gun.)
CNN gave the story a cursory mention between reports of George Bush Sr. being admitted to hsopital, and the capture of the Waffle House shooter, but it was "The Daily Beast" that summed up the American indifference to Canadian news best with the following headline: "Several pedestrians struck by van in Toronto!"
Yup, not much happens up here in Canada!
